Midweek Entrepreneur Spotlight #1: Ponyride Detroit

I hope you saw the post on the MBM Instagram (@MBMJeremy)

Ironically, I first heard of Ponyride Detroit when looking to get into the same sort of business in the same part of town. Months ago, I had a meeting with the entrepreneur society at Kettering University; It was this meeting I had the opportunity to visit  the Factory Two maker space. The things they were doing there really hit home with me - I knew that I had to be a part of the movement.

So fast forward to February, I reached back out to Factory Two for some insight on the dark side of opening and owning a collaborative space, in or around Detroit. This is when I was told about Ponyride, TechTown, and i3. These three organizations mean the world to me, and are as close as you can get to understanding the vision I have for capturing, acknowledging, encouraging, and celebrating the creative and innovative mind in action.

There are some polarizing examples drawn from Ponyride I want to mention to provide a clearer definition of the Modern Business Mind. Here is a great quote from their site:

"In 2011, our community began activating space and seeking residents to offer tools, education, and ideas that foster collaboration with a shared goal of increasing the opportunity of success for all."

These words are a good start, with key parts being: foster collaboration, increasing opportunity, and success for all. What really attracts me to the modern business mind is that they relate things back to impact and intrinsic value... here is a quote from my post "What is the Modern Business Mind":

"Companies can be started without a formal business plan or ancient methods of venture capitalism. On the same note, the way the creative mind can interact with the present day world is vastly different than any other previous generation. The world is smaller and more connected. Concepts like emotions, activism, impact, value, and simplicity through technology are at the forefront."

Notice how Ponyride Detroit (and the other mentions) pretty much hit that entire quote on the head. However, looking back at the first Network Series post with Dr. Williams we see that Ponyride ALSO is offering tools, education, and ideas that foster collaboration on areas of the "business spectrum". They aren't narrowing their view to the high tech high potential startups that seem to exist to make an insurmountable amount of money. The folks in Detroit are true Modern Business Minds in the sense that their eyes and hearts are open to the possibility of change and innovation on any conceivable front through organization, acknowledgement, encouragement, and celebration

(speaking of celebration I am definitely securing myself some tickets to their next maker social and ClandesDine... Cheers!)

Let me know what you think about Ponyride Detroit and the MBM, I can't wait to hear from you!
Sincerely,
MBMJeremy
